New Orleans

1984 Louisiana World Exposition in New Orleans, May 12- Nov 11, 1984
Its 82-acre setting along the banks of the Mississippi River dazzles the imagination with a wonderland of fact and fantasy. The Wonderwall, a half-mile long fairy-tale structure extends from the City Gate to the Bridge Gate. Shown here is a section of this colorful parade of shapes and forms designed to enchant and delight. The peacock (inset) is only one of many beautiful decorations of this unusual art form.

Jackson Square, originally known as the Place D'Armes is a monument to Don Andres Almonester y Roxas, whose funds built St. Louis Cathedral in 1794, and Pontalba Apartments, flanking the square. The building to the left of the religious edifice is the Cabildo, best known monument to the age of Spanish domination and storehouse of historic treasures. The building on the right of the church is the Presbytere, housing the Natural Science Division of the Lousiana State Museum. In the center of the square is the Jackson Monument unveiled in 1856. Jackson Square has been well preserved and is under excellent care.
