Various Sites in Utah

Queen's Castle, Bryce Canyon National Park. Of the many fantastic formations in the great horseshoe-shaped bowl, the Queen's Castle is one of the most interesting. Wind and water have carved the pink and white limestone into myriads of unusual forms and figures.

Cedar Breaks National Monument in Southern Utah. Called "circle of painted cliffs" by the Indians, this vast amphitheater is almost half a mile deep and two miles from rim to rim. Its walls are eroded and broken into massive colored ridges radiating from the center, white or orange at the top, breaking into deep rose and coral.

Paul Bunyan's Potty. A huge "pothole" arch, a few miles up Horse Canyon and the Salt Creek, in the Needles District, Canyonlands National Park.

The Mormon Battalion Monument. This monument was erected in 1927 in commemoration of the march made by those men who volunteered at Council Bluffs, Iowa, in May and June, 1846, for service in the War with Mexico. They marched to San Diego, California, 2,000 miles, the longest march of infantry in history. Seven members of the Battalion participated in the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill, January 24, 1848.

Navajo Twins and Sunbonnet Rock, Bluff. These unusual rock formations stand beside the highway at Bluff, Utah. Bluff was settled in 1880 by the "Hole in the rock" Mormon pioneers.

Cart Creek Bridge. This 500-foot Cart Creek Bridge near the $30 million Flaming Gorge Dam is Utah's longest single-span bridge. Cost $3/4 million. Contents, 1.300 CU. yards of concrete and 2 1/4 million pounds of steel. Its 28-foot roadway is 200 feet above the canyon floor and will remain 30 feet above the 91-mile long Flaming Gorge Lake when completely filled.

Utah

I have 2 postcards in my collection from Utah. The first one is of Salt Lake City. It's elevation is 4,330 feet at the valley floor and 5,200 feet in the foothills. About seven million people visit Salt Lake area each year. There are nine major ski resorts, three cross country ski areas and the nations only recreational ski jumping complex that are all less than an hour's drive from downtown.

"The Christus"  North Visitor Center, Temple Square, Salt Lake City
This heroic size statue of Jesus the Christ is a copy of the magnificent Christus Statue by Thorvaldsen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
