Various Cards from Washington

Fort Nisqually, Port Defiance Park, Tacoma. Many thousands of tourists annually visit this replica of the old Ft. Nisqually which was originally built in 1833 and later destroyed by the Indians. The second Fort was built in 1843, and that which remained of it is at the present site. The old Granery which is located here was built in 1843 and is the oldest standing building in Washington. The first Fort was built along the waterfront just north of the Niswually River about 18 miles south of its present location. This fort was reconstructed in 1934 by the Y.M.B.C of Tacoma, Metropolitan Park District, and other organizations.

Lake Crescent and Storm King Mountain. Towering above the azure blue waters of this beautiful lake, Storm King is indeed a weather sentinel. Clouds about its summit foretell the coming storm and as they melt away clear skies are in the offing.

Grand Coulee Dam. Upon the completion of the Grand Coulee Dam across the Columbia River a lake 151 miles long was created behind it. Huge pumps lift water into a reservoir in the Upper Grand Coulee, and from this higher elevation hundreds of thousands of acres of fertile land have been brought under cultivation in southeastern Washington.

Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery (World's largest) on the Cowlitz River in Lewis County. This hatchery guarantees propagation and continued supply of ssalmon for the benefit of the sports fisherman and an abundant source of succulent sea food.

Mount Rainier from Pinnacle Peak Trail. One of the most thrilling trips in Rainier National Park. Paradise Valley appears far below and "The Mountain" towers 14,408 feet high in the distance.

Beautiful Snoqualmie Falls, located in the forested foot hills of the Washington Cascade Mountains, is one of the state's most famous scenic attractions. A short auto drive from Seattle. It also is the source of Hydro-Electric Power for the surrounding areas.

The newest major garden in the Spokane Park system is located on the south side of the city within the Manito Park area. It was started in early 1970 with cooperation from Spokane's sister city Nishinomiya, Japan, who in turn has a lilac garden. An asymmetrical balance of stones, water, plants, and man made structures is the media of the garden artist here. This living work of art is also a home for birds, fish, animals, and life nearly too small to see.

Chair Lift at Crystal Mountain, Rises to Summit House. Located at the Crest of Crystal Mountain nearly 7000 feet above sea level. 

Fort Borst Blockhouse, Centralia Washington.
This historic blockhouse was built in the 1850's by early white settlers for defense against the Indians. Luckily, it never had to be used for this purpose. Today it is located in Fort Borst Park.

The Imax Theatre Pavilion and Clock Tower (left to right) along the Spokane River, are focal points of this popular park in the heart of the city. Pretty flowers, blue water, ducks and seaguls are the order of the day. The Clock Tower is the last reminder of the Greater Northern Depot and maze of the railroad tracks once occupying this very site.

St. John's Cathedral in Spokane. Under construction from 1927 to 1954, this magnificent structure is considered to be one of the great cathedrals of America. It's Rose Window is 23 ft in diameter. Recitals on the Aeolian Skinner pipe organ with 78 ranks may be heard each Saturday at 2pm.

Mid Valley Fresh Fruit, Monitor, Washington. Located eight miles west of Wenatchee Washington on Highway #2. Fresh fruit grows in abundance in the fertile Wenatchee Valley. "The Apple Capital of the World"

Keller Ferry Crossing the Columbia River on Highway 21, in Eastern Washington.

Packwood, Washington. Beautiful Downtown Packwood nestled high in the Cascade Mountains on White Pass. 14,410 feet Mount Rainier stands guardian over all.
